A 'Technical Manager' but only when you need one!

Many smaller businesses can't afford the "luxury" of a full time technical manager, nor in truth do they need one.  The answer would logically be to employ a highly qualified resource as a part time employee but this is not usually possible.  What's the alternative?

Typically a member of the AQCT team will coach, mentor and support key individuals within the client company, usually the Owner/Manager and a suitable individual who is not ready for the Technical Managers job yet.  This combination provides many advantages including:

  • Only paying the cost of the Technical Manager when you actually need them
  • Giving the Owner / Manager a technical contact to assist in the higher level issues such as developing and rationalising the systems, helping with internal, external and third party audits
  • Being there when the Environmental Health Officer or customer auditor is due to visit
  • Strongly championing quality and, when applicable food safety, at all levels within the business
  • Developing systems that are logical and easy to follow for the day to day running of the technical aspects of the business
  • Developing the 'junior' member of staff, agreeing actions and schedules between visits.  Guiding and stretching them through the routine, daily tasks before coaching them through the higher level processes
  • Being there 'at the end of the phone' as a mentor, support and point of reference for the 'junior' member of staff when they are unsure of an issue
  • External objectivity and the ability to challenge; not being part of the organisation's management team means the we do not have an internal agenda or corner to fight
  • No company contributions or redundancy packages to consider when you no longer need the services.
